Two Free-Verse Poems
Jordan Heiliger

Step up to the plate,
aim, and wait.
For what?
Only He knows.
The ball may be easily
knocked out of the park.
But sometimes it comes
out of nowhere.

Oh, He had a plan all right.
A fastball that
you didn’t see coming.
And for you
it was one strike,
You’re out.

Beginnings are beautiful,
Of innocence and honesty.
The only worry,
Rejection for being yourself.

Endings are bitter,
For if something is ending,
Someone accepted you,
Then changed their mind.
