It Doesn’t Matter
Ruthann Stuckey
Dedicated to the victims of the hurricane in the Philippines

Hundreds died,
lost homes and loved ones,
everything they had.
Gone.

But that’s not me,
not my family,
my friends,
my dreams.
Swept away with the hurricane.

So time passes by.
I send money.
Maybe.
If my friends do.
If that’s what everyone else does.

And I move on,
with practice,
homework.
Life has to happen.

Meanwhile,
children are orphans,
wives, widows.
Life as they knew it is over.

But it doesn’t really matter.
I don’t see them.
I have stuff to do.
