Letter from the Editor

It has been quite the ride! Throughout the year all of us on campus have been through so much. I know I have, especially with Progeny. The hours of posting calls for submissions, the emails, and the meetings have all been worth it. We have a Progeny to be proud of, full of creativity by dedicated writers and photographers.
I want to thank my editors—Camrin Santchi, Arianna Richards, Jimeca Jackson, and Brian Coon—who spent long hours advertising and contributing to this publication. I also want to thank the judges of the annual writing contest—Lynn Gilliland, Susan Paulus, and Myron Bok—as well as the Defiance County Writers Group for their dedication to the arts. It is because of their support that the fine poetry of Javone Hilliard gets the notice it deserves.
There were many stellar submissions this year, and narrowing the list was not an easy task. But this year’s “Renewal and Discovery” theme allowed the editors to make our final choices. We decided on this theme while reflecting on our time at Defiance College . . . with curiosity about life beyond DC. We think the person who exemplifies this the most is Javone Hilliard, who more than earned this year’s Progeny prize. His work is an inspiration to us all.
I hope all of you reading this issue enjoy it as much as we enjoyed putting it together. May it spark creativity within you and help you to create your own work.

Keep on creating, keep discovering. We’ll see you next semester.
